Annually since 2002, Taylor Engineering has provided the Jupiter Inlet District (JID) with inlet management, engineering design, permitting, bidding assistance, and construction-phase services for the Jupiter Inlet sand trap maintenance dredging and associated beach nourishment. Approximately every third year we also assist the JID in partnering with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) to maintain the adjacent areas of the Intracoastal Waterway at the same time as the sand trap maintenance. Through an interlocal cost-sharing agreement, both agencies realize significant cost savings by sharing mobilization, production, and construction administration costs. The project removes accumulated sand from the sand trap inside Jupiter Inlet, and the adjacent Intracoastal Waterway section, and places the sand on the beach south of the inlet in accordance with FDEP-approved inlet management practices. Taylor Engineering regularly prepares project construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents in accordance with environmental permit requirements. The firm also coordinates the project with regulatory agencies, manages permit modifications, and oversees necessary monitoring activities as required by the regulatory agencies (e.g., physical monitoring/surveys and sand QAQC testing to ensure ICWW sediments meet beach-quality standards).
