USCG Station South Padre Island Sediment and Water Quality Sampling

Project Details
Services

Bathymetric conditions within the boat basin and primary access channel at U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Station South Padre Island, South Padre Island, Texas were presenting potential navigation hazards due to sediment accumulation and shoaling within these maintained portions of the waterway. As a result, the USCG planned to maintenance dredge the boat basin and access channel to restore the authorized design depth and safe navigation conditions. Necessitated by federal regulations, the USCG was required to complete extensive sediment and water quality sampling and analysis to evaluate the dredged material for potential contamination and ensure proper dredged material handling and disposal. Under its Multiple-Award Indefinite-Delivery Indefinite-Quantity Task Order Contracts (MATOC) for Ocean Architect and Engineer (A&E) Services to support USCG facilities nationwide, the USCG engaged Taylor Engineering to provide sediment and water quality sampling and analysis services in support of the maintenance dredging project. Following the guidance of the approved Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) and Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), Taylor Engineering’s environmental team successfully completed the work allowing the maintenance dredging project to move forward.
