Taylor Engineering completed a multi-parameter carrying capacity study for Narragansett Town Beach to provide recommendations for beach operations and management that would enhance the experience of beach visitors and create a safe, resilient beach. To assess the current physical health and carrying capacity of the beach, Taylor Engineering completed a desktop study, conducted field visits, launched an online survey, and analyzed beach morphology and user trends. The team found that although some people may feel the beach is too crowded on high-visitation days, there is additional capacity available on the beach and provided a list of 39 recommendations with examples of implementation to improve beach operations and management of the iconic, family-friendly beach. Taylor Engineering presented the results of the study to the Town’s Council in a public workshop. During the workshop, the study received numerous praises, with members from the Town’s Council stating it “was a very comprehensive study and one of the best (they) have seen” and that they “were really impressed with the recommendations; there are several that (the Town) can take a strong look at and implement immediately.”
