The South Atlantic Division (SAD) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) partnered with the USACE Jacksonville District (SAJ) contracted Taylor Engineering to conduct a multi-part study to enhance coastal resilience across the SAD. The SAD encompasses six states and two territories (NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands). Part 1 of the project involved a desktop study to quantify sand needs and available sand resources for all beach nourishment projects, both federal and non-federal, within the SAD. Part 2 of the study involved an offshore sand search within four counties of southeast and southwest FL that were identified by Part 1 as having the largest deficit in sand resources. Part 3 of the study involved a desktop study to evaluate the dredged material management area (DMMA) material and identify potential beneficial uses to support offloading of the material.
