Project Description
Taylor Engineering (as Interflow Engineering) completed the Cypress Creek Watershed Management Plan Update for Hillsborough County. This project was cooperatively funded by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD). The hydrologic and hydraulic modeling was conducted in accordance with the SWFWMD Guidelines and Specifications (G&S).
The Cypress Creek watershed is approximately 160 square miles spanning across the central portion of Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. The model domain for this project is approximately 42 square miles with 33 square miles lying in Hillsborough County. Through extensive research of as-built plans, environmental resource permit files, and field reconnaissance, Taylor Engineering developed a comprehensive Geographic Watershed Information System (GWIS) geodatabase containing over 750 subbasins and more than 1,075 primary links. The model simulations were completed using EPA SWMM 5.1. The updated Cypress Creek model has been successfully calibrated and verified to measured rainfall and USGS streamflow gage data.
Taylor Engineering evaluated flood protection level of service and developed alternative projects for improving the flood protection and water quality functions of the watershed. Taylor Engineering prepared a Project Development and Evaluation (PD&E) for one of the flooding areas of concern. This task included a detailed design-level survey of the project route, preparation of 30% design plans, and pre-application meetings with SWFWMD.
