Several times within the past decade, hurricanes and tropical storms had severely damaged the Mirimar Beach parking lot in Walton County. The county, seeking a permanent public beach access, retained Taylor Engineering to design and permit a beachfront parking facility. The project included construction of a single-level concrete structure supported by 181 prestressed concrete piles, installation of a sheet pile upland retaining bulkhead, and relocation of roadside utilities.
In coordination with these design services, Taylor Engineering applied for and obtained FDEP Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) permits to build the concrete structure and to replace the frontal dune system. In addition, Taylor Engineering provided the county with bid and construction administration services. Construction phase services included on-site observation, contractor submittal review, pay application review, and project closeout and final certification.
